One of the things I like best about Cordelia is that even in her shallowest phases, she immediately drops EVERYTHING to help out the Scoobies, denigrate them as she might. She’s got a paper due and she procrastinated and there’s Buffy - who she never admits even liking very much - looking beat-up and there’s VIBE in the room and Buffy asks Cordy to drive her home and she’s just like, “Of course.” Not even “Okay” or “Fine, but you owe me”. Just “Of course”, like it’s a no-brainer, even after all the casual insults that really are just reflexes for her now. She expects everyone to care enough to understand that that’s just how she is, and they do (evident in them giving it back to her in spades), and she returns that understanding that’s so much deeper than her ‘friendship’ with the Cordettes by knowing exactly the point at which to drop the usual snark and be herself - a caring woman in spite of herself.
This is my favorite friendship on Buffy. Fight me.
